Maryland Million 2018

The 2018 Maryland Million event faced several challenges including an Electronic Musicians Concert which was to be held on the existing parking lot – occupying parking spaces that would otherwise have been used by patrons, the need for dedicated ride-share areas for drop off and pickup, and maintenance of pedestrian and vehicular flow during peak times throughout the day – to include documentation of parking totals and possible vehicular/pedestrian backups for future event planning decisions.

To address those challenges, The Traffic Group worked to established additional offsite parking spaces for concert patrons and shuttle buses to/from the concert event, including Variable Message Board Panels (VMS) along the major roadways guiding both race patrons and concert patrons to the appropriate access points, established a dedicated rideshare drop off and pickup area withing a separate confined area along with a safe accessible path to the concert event, and conducted aerial drone flight activities throughout the event day to document parking area counts and heavy vehicle and pedestrian zones, and provided printed materials to be used for future event planning.
