I-95 Investment Grade Data Collection Study

With 200,000 daily trips, the area from Prince William County to the Springfield mixing bowl on I-95 in Virginia represents one of the busiest sections of highway anywhere on the East Coast. As a result, High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes were in order. The challenge for the tracking analysis was unlike anything else The Traffic Group had encountered – this was an extreme amount of traffic, ramps, interchanges, and on and off areas. A decision was made to deploy hundreds of pieces of equipment, including traditional tube machines, Miovision ALPR cameras, plus Bluetooth tracking devices. The Traffic Group successfully completed the investment grade data collection that resulted in the HOT Lanes opening in late 2014.
