The Phase 3 Expansion of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery comprises the third construction phase of the cemetery development and will primarily include the construction of additional burial facilities intended to provide 10 years of service on existing, undeveloped land. The remainder of the site will be developed in future 10-year phased projects.
As part of this project an ingress/egress connection is proposed to adjacent Walter Strawn Drive on the north side of the Cemetery. During plan development it was determined a proposed 16 million square foot industrial development being planned east of Route 53 could substantially increase truck traffic on this public roadway and create new traffic patterns on the northern boundary road.
To understand the impacts to the Cemetery and the design of the expansion project, The Traffic Group was engaged to undertake a traffic study to define existing and proposed conditions concerning vehicular traffic and access and to determine resultant impacts.
