BALTIMORE, MD (2/27/19) — Three executives of The Traffic Group, Inc. (TTG) – one of the nation’s leading traffic engineering and transportation planning firms – are among the first 100 professionals nationwide to receive the prestigious new Road Safety Professional (RSP) Certification.
The RSP Certification is designed to recognize road safety as a profession, establish a recognized level of practice and knowledge, and incentivize safety education. The Certification was established in October 2018 by The Transportation Professional Certification Board in conjunction with a wide array of transportation and safety-related organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
The Traffic Group executives – Mickey Cornelius, PE, PTOE (Senior Vice President), Carl Wilson, Jr., PE, PTOE (Vice President), and Shulin Li, PE, PTOE (Senior Traffic Engineer) – passed Level One of the Certification. Those achieving Level One Certification have demonstrated proficiency in the foundations of road safety principles.
Level Two Certification is geared toward professionals whose primary job functions are focused on improving the safety performance of surface transportation systems. This Level is primarily for professionals responsible for developing and implementing engineering or behavioral programs aimed at reducing the number of fatalities and injuries due to road crashes.
“We are very proud of Mickey, Carl and Shulin,” says Wes Guckert, PTP, President & CEO of The Traffic Group. “Their achievement further enhances the expertise and capabilities of our already formidable team.”
With more than 40,000 lives lost annually on highways in the U.S. and Canada, as well as the growing attention on improving public safety through initiatives such as Toward Zero Deaths, Vision Zero, and the Road to Zero, the RSP Certification represents an important step forward for the safety profession. The Certification provides for professionals involved in a wide array of safety-related disciplines to establish their competency in providing for the safety of the traveling public.
