The Traffic Group is the traffic consultant responsible for analyzing the impact of this 15 million square foot industrial development. The Principio development will transform thousands of acres in the center of Cecil County from under-utilized zoned commercial space into a thriving development providing thousands of jobs and revenue for Cecil County and the State of Maryland. Since the Principio Business Park is an industrial facility, there will be a substantial number of tractor-trailers, some during peak hours, others during off-peak hours that need to be accommodated. Those large trucks will traverse US 40, MD 272, and MD 222 and it does not make sense for all those vehicles to use the local road system.

The development currently has access to only US 40 but needs access to I-95 in order to reduce the traffic impact on the existing interchanges along I-95 at both MD 222 and at MD 272. These current interchanges will fail in the not too distant future. TTG has been tasked with solving this issue.

The MDTA, SHA, and Cecil County Government, in coordination with the FHWA, are studying an interchange along I-95 with new ramps to support on-going and planned development of the Principio Business Park. This interchange is known as the I-95/Belvidere Road interchange.

TTG undertook studies and analyses to demonstrate that a new interchange along I-95 at Belvidere Road – which included a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) – would solve the development’s challenges. We continue to work with the client as the project progresses.
