The Department of the Navy requested a Transportation Study of the Health Sciences Expansion at the Naval Support Activity Bethesda site. The site included the new Walter Reed Bethesda Hospital and the construction of a Medical Facility and parking garage.
Necessary for NEPA compliance, the Transportation Study analyzed pedestrian, bicycle, and transit travel modes; traffic capacity and levels of service; truck access and parking conditions for both existing and 2022 future conditions. The analysis of the future conditions consisted of determining the impacts of the 2022 No Action Alternative plus two proposed action alternatives to construct a multi-story education and research laboratory and parking garage.
The Traffic Group’s report provided the analysis (Level of Service) for each transportation mode based on the two Action Alternatives compared to the No Action Alternative, and a set of recommendations by travel mode based on the analyses.
